Oil and Gas Exploration, Extraction and Transportation Committee (OGEETC)
OGEETC is an ad-hoc Energy Exploration Committee to provide advice to Lamont County, Town of Bruderheim and Town of Lamont on new policies and guidelines to minimize the impact of oil and gas exploration, extraction and transportation to residents and lands within Lamont County, Town of Lamont and Town of Bruderheim. By taking a regional approach, all municipalities will work cooperatively in creating a positive and sustainable (social, environmental, economic) future for our region.
Priority Items for Action
The Committee set up four focus areas and identified action items within the focus areas:
FOCUS AREA #1 EDUCATION
a) ERCB – understands working of ERCB; invite ERCB staff, others to OGEETC Meetings
b) Reclamation process/protocol; understand reclamation process, protocol by inviting government and industry to OGEETC Meetings.
c) Open House(s); set up open house(s) to inform/educate landowners of issues/opportunities relating relating to Oil Gas Exploration Extraction and Transportation.
FOCUS AREA #2 IDENTIFYING AREAS OF CONCENTRATED DRILLING
a) Pipeline/wells; obtain appropriate mapping of well & pipelines.
b) Pipeline corridors; work with appropriate agencies to identify pipeline corridors and develop protocols to have corridor use implemented.
FOCUS AREA #3 RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
a) Work with adjacent municipalities to identify issues and opportunities relating to OGEET.
b) Identification of industry player; identify industry contacts, invite to OGEETC Meeting and develop relationships.
c) Government Ministries; identify related government departments and contact people and invite to OGEETC Meeting and develop understanding the role of their department.
d) ERCB; identify appropriate ERCB staff and invite to OGEETC Meeting to get good understanding of ERCB.
FOCUS AREA #4 IDENTIFICAITON OF GRANT PROGRAMS
a) Explore government grant initiative that can assist OGEETC in completing special identified actions.
b) Collaborate with regional municipalities and agencies on grants when appropriate.
